Open Quantum Walks

Abstract: Open quantum walks (OQWs) are a class of quantum walks, which are purely driven by the interaction with the dissipative environment. In this talk, I will review theoretical advances on discrete-time OQWs' foundations, and a scaling limit of OQWs called open quantum Brownian motion. Primarily I will focus on the results and developments of discrete-time OQW, covering general formalism, quantum trajectories for OQWs, central limit theorems, the microscopic derivation, and possible generalisations and applications of OQWs.

Bio: Ilya Sinayskiy graduated in 2003 from the Samara State University (Russian Federation) where he also received his PhD (candidate of science in physics and mathematics) in January 2007. Starting in 2008, he was a post-doc with Prof Francesco Petruccione in Durban (UKZN). In 2009, Prof Sinayskiy was appointed as a Researcher at the National Institute for Theoretical Physics (KwaZulu-Natal node). In May 2016, he joined a permanent staff (Senior Lecturer)  and currently, he is holding Associate Professorship at the School of Chemistry and Physics (WST Campus, UKZN).
Prof Sinaykiy's primary research areas include Open quantum systems, Quantum Information Processing, Quantum Optics, Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum Biology.
